Today, together we will get to know Santarcangelo di Romagna, one of those villages made of history, good food and beautiful landscapes.
The backpack is ready? Then let's go ...
It is located a few kilometers from Rimini and is very easy to reach.
Santarcangelo di Romagna is a town located on a hill, Colle Giove, from which some say one of the most famous wines of the area takes its name: Sangiovese di Romagna.
It is a medieval center that boasts ancient origins. With the barbarian invasions it moves to Colle Giove. It is around the year 1000 that, following the construction of the Castle (later Rocca Malatestiana), the current historic center of the city is established.
Our little tour starts from Piazza Ganganelli and the Arco dei Becchi (with its curiosities).
Here every year, on November 11, St. Martin's Day, great horns are hung under the arch. According to popular belief, the horns swing as the horned pass by. One can imagine the problems that this legend has unintentionally caused between the couples of Santarcangelo and so over the years it has taken the habit of letting the couple pass together under the arch....no longer separately.
In the center of Piazza Ganganelli you can find Fontana della Pigna, a symbol of women and fertility, which was created from an idea of Tonino Guerra, an eclectic poet and character, who spent his entire life in Santarcangelo di Romagna.
The citadel of Santarcangelo made of steps and narrow alleys is not the only beauty of this magical place.
Santarcangelo in fact is characterized by a real underground and mysterious world made up of caves, granaries, iceboxes and secret escape routes.
The things still to be seen are countless, but we hope to have given you a taste of something really beautiful. A place not to be missed …
Our tour does not end here ....we are going to give you some tips, suggestions made by our staff !
Alessia, from the booking office, strongly advises you to reach Santarcangelo di Romagna with the electric bike excursion organized in collaboration with E-Motionbike.
It runs along the Marecchia river starting from the park of Rimini and then passing inside Mutonia and continuing towards the hinterland as far as the Verucchio bridge, where you can stop for a snack at the kiosk of Bacchus.
The tour continues, along the "coasts of Sgrigna" from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Valmarecchia and then down towards the town center.
Another suggestion comes from Marco, the Director of i-SUITE, who advises you to try the very original Santabago: a cultural association that deals with art and food in the context of their home.
A space for food and wine tastings, meetings, readings and music listening.
Maria, the reception manager, on the other hand, wants to tell you about the Button Museum,"absolutely not to be missed if you visit Santarcangelo. Especially for the skill and involvement of the curator of the exhibition who will tell you the history of the world through buttons (there are 8,500 buttons in this collection).
Nicoletta, also from the booking office, wants to suggest a small challenge: can you find the door with an ear? In the historical center, where the Campanone stands ...
In fact, there is a nice door that has an entrance handle in the shape of an ear....
